Catholic church launches pro-life initiative
The 50th anniversary of the Abortion Act is to be marked by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Paisley tonight.
Rt Rev John Keenan, Bishop of Paisley, said: “To mark this anniversary, SPUC ( Scotland), the oldest and one of the most wellrespected pro-life campaigning and educational organisations in the world, is spearheading initiatives to re-energise the pro-life movement in order to build a Culture of Life.
“I am keen to collaborate with this organisation – so f i rmly rooted in respect for the dignity of human life – on this important, albeit troubling, anniversary.
“I would like to invite each of our parishes and schools to send two representatives to our meeting from 7pm to 9pm in St Mirin’s Cathedral Hall.” Kenneth Speirs
The Salvation Army is famed for many things, and its bands can be counted at the top of the list.
Renowned worldwide for their high standards of musicianship, the musical groups are a familiar sight on our streets at Christmas-time.
But they also play regularly in their own unique style at Salvation Army citadel concerts and services year-in, year-out, often accompanied by the church’s equally famous Songsters.
The bands also perform an important outreach service, and are frequently invited to play at all sorts of venues, where their tuneful renditions of hymns and praise songs are highly valued.
The latest engagement of one band was at Paisley Abbey.
The Clydebank Salvation Army Band drew a crowd for a concert that was greatly appreciated by all who attended.
Abbey minister Rev Alan Birss said: “The Salvation Army Band gave a wonderful concert as part of our monthly series of lunchtime recitals.”
