Paisley troupe set to put best foot forward

- Kenneth Speirs

A group of young Paisley dancers is set to take to the stage of one of the country’s most prestigious theatres.

Members of Jennifer Scott Dance will be performing at the Theatre Royal, in Glasgow, as part of the prestigious Go Dance showcase.

This will see the theatre set aside its professional programme to allow community groups to take part in the magical world of the stage – and Jennifer and her team of eight-year-olds and upwards will be among them.

Jennifer, who is a graduate of the Scottish School of Contemporary Dance, said everyone is excited about appearing on the big stage – which is often host to Scottish Ballet and Scottish Opera – at the beginning of next month.

She said: “I’ve done this myself professionally before, but I decided to do something with my students.

“To get in, I had to let Go Dance know about us and about the piece we will be performing, and we were accepted.”

The piece is called ‘13’ and looks at the lives of young people.

“It’s about growing up and the things you go through, what it’s like when you are young,” she said.

At her school in Paisley town centre, Jennifer teaches pupils ranging from eight- year- olds to adults.

“We do all types of dance,” she said. “Jazz, ballet, tap and contemporary.”

A Theatre Royal spokesperson said: “With an outstanding programme of bite-sized works by dancers and dance makers from across Scotland, Go Dance provides a fantastic platform for both established groups and the up-and-coming ones”

Jennifer and her dancers can be seen at Go Dance on Thursday, February 2, at 7.30pm.
