Blaze is probed by cops

A man suffered a fire attack after yobs smashed a window and tried to torch his living room.

The victim, 59, tackled flames which ignited when an object was lobbed onto the carpet from the outside.

Police are carrying out door- to- door enquiries in Johnstone’s Old Howwood Road.

Detective Inspector Sandy Nelson says patrols are being stepped up. He told the Paisley Daily Express: “This is a 59-year-old man who has been subject to a wilful act which has left him badly shaken.

“I would appeal for anybody who was in the area and saw anything suspicious before, during or after this incident to get in contact.”

The man was home alone at the time of the ordeal around 11pm on Wednesday.

He was last night to upset to comment.

Detectives are scouring CCTV and a heavy police presence has been sent to the area.

No serious injuries were sustained during the drama.
