Billy ‘The Fish’ was a great catch for Saints

-

St Mirren have some new players – and they’re pretty darn good.

So, following an eye-catching performance from a host of the new-bys, it should come as no surprise that we have a new name on the leaderboard.

The man of the match award this week could have gone to any one of a number of St Mirren players, following their display at Dundee.

Gary Irvine produced his performance of the season, Pal Fjelde slotted in seamlessly at right back, despite it being an unfavoured position.

Gary MacKenzie was solid as a rock – again, and Stevie Mallan may have signed off his time at Saints in stunning fashion, if he does in fact depart.

However, step forward Mr Billy O’Brien, or Billy “The Fish” O’Brien as he has already been dubbed.

The on-loan Manchester City goalkeeper was in splendid form as he prevented Dundee ever getting into the game, blocking chance after chance in a backs-to-the-wall display in the opening half at Dens.

It will take a lot for O’Brien to shoot up into contention however, if he continues to replicate that kind of display then there may just be enough time for him to catch the Star Saint frontrunners, Lewis Morgan and Kyle McAllister, who remain in top spot.

Leaderboard: Lewis Morgan (5), Kyle McAllister (5), Gary MacKenzie (4), Stevie Mallan (3), Jack Baird (3), Kyle Magennis (2), Billy O’Brien (1), David Clarkson (1), Scott Gallacher (1), Jason Naismith (1), Ryan Hardie (1), Gary Irvine (1), John Sutton (1), Jamie Langfield (1).
