Keep up the good work

Rory demands more goals

- Craig Ritchie

St Mirren striker Rory Loy hopes the net continues to bulge following the Buddies’ stunning scoreline on Saturday.

The on-loan striker, who joined the club on a temporary deal from Dundee in January, led the line as the Paisley side stormed to a 6- 2 victory over Ayr United at the Paisley 2021 Stadium.

But with the rest of the season in mind, Loy laughed that he just hopes that his teammates haven’t drained the well dry on the scoring front.

He told Express Sport: “We have been scoring a lot of goals and you can’t take all your chances.

“But we managed to find the back of the net more often than not at the weekend — let’s just hope we haven’t used them all up over the course of one game.

“It gives us confidence and keeps us massively in touch.

“Lady luck seems to be against us when you consider some of the results that are flying around the league at the moment. Dundee United are letting us down after getting beaten by Raith and Queens, so that’s disappointing – but we can only control what we can do over the course of 90 minutes.”

After a self-confessed slow start to life back in Paisley, where he spent a short time on loan in 2010, the 29-year-old insists he is back to his best.

Having battled to get up to full fitness, having not played since the opening game of the season for parent side Dundee, Loy now believes that his hard work is finally beginning to pay dividends.

He added: “Not playing football regularly for a year takes it out of you more than you think.

“It took me a couple of weeks to get going and I had a bit of an illness as well when I first joined.

“I missed a game, didn’t really recover and probably played a game that I shouldn’t have played, so it was a bit of a stop-start beginning here.

“Over the course of the last month or so I’ve managed to get up to speed fitness- wise. I’ve got my match sharpness back and I’m looking like myself again.

“I was getting 20 minutes here or there at Dundee and when I first came here, and that isn’t ideal.

“Mentally that’s tough as well, so it took me a few weeks to get back into the swing of things.

“I would say the last few weeks I’ve done well.

“The Dundee United league game went well when I came on during that, and then durting the Queen of the South game I did well.

“I felt I performed at the cup final and again at the weekend, so I think it’s been a good few weeks.”
