Midfield maestro makes the SPFL elite team
St Mirren midfielder Stevie Mallan has been named in the SPFL team of the week following a stunning performance in the weekend win over Ayr.
The 21- year- old has continuously caught the eye since January, with Mallan admitting the arrival of new skipper Stephen McGinn has played a pivotal role in his resurgence since the turn of the year.
Mallan fired home a firsthalf stunner as the Buddies picked up a crucial three points towards their survival fight.
He is joined by the likes of Aberdeen hat-trick hero Andy Considine and Celtic’s Scott Sinclair in the chosen squad.
An SPFL spokesman said: “St Mirren kept their late bid for survival alive with a 6- 2 mauling of Ayr United.
“Mallan, as he tends to do, ran the show from the centre of the park, and set the Paisley side on their way to victory by bagging the opening goal and making the second for Gary MacKenzie.
“The Buddies are now just one point off the bottom of the Ladbrokes Championship.”
