Weather girl is set to beef up hospice funds

TV’s Judith forecasts success for BBQ campaign

- Kenneth Speirs

The forecast is looking bright for one of Paisley’s favourite charities.

Accord Hospice has joined popular TV weather presenter Judith Ralston for the launch of a tasty fundraising initiative.

The Big Scotch Beef Sizzle is set to see a burst of barbecue activity taking place throughout Paisley during June to raise funds for Accord.

Supported by Scotch Beef PGI, the initiative aims to get steaks and burgers on the barbie to raise vital funds for hospice care.

Judith, who is well know to viewers of BBC Scotland, said: “One of the joys of our country is the variety, and unpredictability, of our weather which means hosting a BBQ is always an adventure.

“The secret is to be prepared – pack an umbrella along with the suncream, and there will be nothing to stop the fun.

“I would encourage everyone to get involved in the Big Scotch Beef Sizzle which is a fantastic way to help your local hospice and your local community.”

Accord’s senior fundraiser David McFadden said the hospice is absolutely delighted to be working in partnership with Scottish Hospices Together on this new and exciting project.

He added: “We are very much looking forward to The Big Scotch Beef Sizzle which is sponsored by Quality Meats Scotland to encourage supporters to host their own BBQ style event this June.

“If anyone would like more information on the event, or a fundraising pack on how to help, then please get in touch.’’

Scotland’s Hospices Together is a national partnership of 10 of Scotland’s independent hospices and the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS).

The partnership aims to support and to highlight the work of hospice care in Scotland.

John Brady, chairman of Scotland’s Hospices Together, said: “We are delighted to be launching our first ever national fundraising campaign The Big Scotch Beef Sizzle today, with huge thanks to Scotch Beef PGI for supporting this initiative.

“We would like to encourage as many people as possible across Scotland to host a barbecue in June to support their local Hospice.

“These hospices provide endof-life care and support to patients and their families and are reliant on donations and voluntary support to continue providing that care.”
