Family on the run ... in aid of hospice Taking part in the event is our way of saying thanks

- Kenneth Speirs

The family of a Paisley woman who was cared for by Paisley’s Accord Hospice is to show its thanks by taking part in a fun run.

Tracy McFie’s mother Kathleen died at the hospice in February 2016, having suffered from pancreatic cancer.

And Tracy was so impressed by the care her mum was given that she and her family are to take part in this Saturday’s Bubble Rush, in Glasgow, in a bid to raise money for the charity.

Tracy said: ‘’My mum Kathleen was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in October 2015, which was a huge shock to the whole family.

“Unfortunately, by the time the illness had been found it had already spread to her liver. Doctors gave her the news that she only between six months and a year to live. “This is when my world fell apart. “My mum was everything to me – my soulmate, my best friend. My mum tried so hard to stay positive and fight it for her family, especially her grandchildren Lachlan and Logan, who adored their granny.

“The whole family came to her support.”

It was during this difficult time that Accord offered Kathleen care in its Day Therapy Unit.

“Mum thoroughly enjoyed her Fridays at the day therapy unit but unfortunately her health took a turn for the worst at the end of January,” Tracy said.

“This resulted in her being admitted into the hospice in order for them look after her, providing mum with a better quality of life.

“All the staff at the hospice were amazing and allowed me to phone and check up whenever I needed to, pop in whenever I wanted to and always kept me updated.”

Kathleen passed away on February 9, 2016.

“The staff were amazing before, during and after,” she said.

“These people work so hard looking after people’s relatives, they deserve a medal, they really do.

“I was offered counselling at the hospice, which I attended for a while and really felt it helped.

“Having just passed the one-year anniversary of my mum’s passing, we went to Disneyland Paris where my mum wanted us all to go as a family.

“Supporting Accord is part of our lives now. My boys and I are taking on the Bubble Rush to raise funds and awareness of the fantastic work it does on a daily basis.

“Without the help and care of the hospice and staff we never would have managed to cope or get through one of the worst times of our lives.

“There is not a day goes by that my boys and I don’t think of my mum.

“I just want to say a huge thanks to everyone who helps Accord as they support me and the whole family in our time of need.

“Accord is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, and it’s with all our support they are there to care and comfort families when it’s needed most.”

The Bubble Rush will take place at Bellahouston Park, on Saturday, from 10am to 1pm.
