Driver was three times over limit

-

A drink- driver stopped in his tracks in the early hours of the morning was almost three times over the legal limit when breath-tested by police.

And when his record was checked it was found to be his second offence of a similar nature.

When rock festivalssecurity officer Ronald Russell appeared in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court yesterday he admitted driving while he had 60 microgrammes of alcohol in his breath, exceeding the legal limit of 22mcg.

The court was told that police intercepted him at 4am in Paisley on September 8 last year.

When officers pulled his vehicle over to speak to him, his speech was slurred, he seemed nervous and his breath smelled of alcohol.

The 39-year-old pleaded guilty to driving in Tannahill Crescent, Tannahill Road and Ferguslie Park Avenue while over the legal limit.

The court was told that Russell had a previous drinkdriving conviction and he was told that the disqualification period would be for a mandatory three years.

Russell, of Darkwood Crescent in Pa i s l e y , was given the chance to participate in the Drink Driver Rehabilitation Scheme and told if he completed the course successfully, he would have the period of disqualification reduced by six months.

He was fined a total of £540 reduced from £600 due to his early admission of guilt, and was ordered to pay this at £60 per month.
