Election hopefuls are up and running
Candidates for June 8 showdown are revealed
12.05.2017 Three Renfrewshire councillors are among the candidates who have thrown their hats into the ring for next month’s General Election.
Lib-Dem Eileen McCartin, Independent Paul Mack and Labour’s Alison Dowling are ready to hit the campaign trail again ahead of voters heading to the polls on Thursday, June 8.
The nine UK Parliamentary candidates for the Paisley and Renfrewshire North and Paisley and Renfrewshire South constituencies were announced last night.
There are two Tories, two SNP, 2 Scottish Lib-Dem and two Scottish Labour Party candidates along with Mr Mack.
In the Paisley and Renfrewshire North constituency we have:
John Robert Boyd, Scottish Liberal Democrats
David John Gardiner, Scottish Conservative and Unionist
Gavin Andrew Stuart Newlands, Scottish National Party (SNP) and
Alison Suzanne Watt Taylor, Scottish Labour Party
In the Paisley and Renfrewshire South constituency there is:
Mhairi Black, Scottish National Party (SNP)
Alison Jean Dowling, Scottish Labour Party Paul Mack, Independent Eileen McCartin, Scottish Liberal Democrats and
Amy Louise Thomson, Scottish Conservative and Unionist.
The count for both constituencies will take place overnight on June 8 into June 9 at the Lagoon Leisure Centre, Paisley.
At the recent election for Renfrewshire Council, Alison Dowling made it into Ward 10: Houston, Crosslee and Linwood alongside Audrey Doig, Scottish National Party; Scott Kerr, Scottish Conservative and Unionist and James Sheridan, Scottish Labour Party.
Paul Mack was voted in to Ward 6: Paisley Southeast with Eddie Devine, Scottish Labour Party and Marie McGurk, Scottish National Party.
And Eileen McCartin was elected on to the council for Ward 7: Paisley Southwest with Stephen Burns, Scottish National Party; Lorraine Cameron, Scottish National Party and Kevin Montgomery, Scottish Labour Party.
If you are not registered to vote, you will need to register to vote by Monday, May 22, to vote at the UK general election. You can register to vote at gov.uk/register-to-vote.
