Murder accused told witness he stabbed ‘Musky’

Trial hears man made admission in Paisley fitness shop

- Wilma Riley

The man accused of murdering former Mr Scotland bodybuilder Michael O’Hanlon admitted “I stabbed that p***k Musky” at a Paisley fitness store, a court was told yesterday.

The High Court in Glasgow heard from Fraser Reid, of Paisley, that Steven Kirkwood, 44, also told him: “It all kicked off. I set about him.

“I’ve been fighting with that p*** k Musky. I think I’ve killed him.”

Kirkwood denies murdering Mr O’Hanlon, whose nickname was Musk, in Stevenson, Ayrshire, on July 25, last year.

Mr Reid, 23, told prosecutor Richard Goddard that he was in the Muscle Junction shop in Wellmeadow Street, Paisley, on the afternoon of July 25, last year, when Kirkwood walked in.

The jury was told that the shop is owned by Kirkwood’s stepson Derek Kirkwood.

Mr Reid said that Steven Kirkwood, who he had met a few times before, was “shaking, distressed and all going.”

He added: “He mentioned that he had been fighting with Musk.

“He gave Derek a cuddle and said: ‘I think I’ve killed him.’”

The court was told that Kirkwood also asked for a set of clothes identical to the jeans, dark T-shirt and Timberland boots he was wearing, and money.

Mr Goddard asked Mr Reid: “So Steven Kirkwood had admitted he had been fighting with Michael O’Hanlon,” and he replied: “Yes.’

Mr Goddard then said: “He said it all kicked off, said he had stabbed Musky, asked you for a change of clothing and asked his stepson Derek for money and said he thought he killed him, is that the truth. Mr Reid replied: “Yes.” The witness, a former HGV driver, was then asked: “Did Mr Kirkwood say that the blade was in the car,” and he replied: “Yes.”

Mr Goddard asked: “Did anything happen to the CCTV cameras at the shop which only recorded a visual image,” and Mr Reid said: “I think it was said the CCTV cameras should be switched off by Derek.”

Defence QC Derek Ogg asked: “Did Mr Kirkwood seem disoriented at all,” and Mr Reid replied: “He didn’t seem himself.”

The QC stated: “He told you he had stabbed someone,” and the witness said: “Yes.”

Mr Ogg added: “He said he had been fighting with Musky,” and Mr Reid again replied: “Yes.”

Kirkwood also denies attempting to defeat the ends of justice by disposing of a knife.

He has lodged a special defence of selfdefence.

The trial before Lady Rae continues.
