Eilidh battles on to pick up silverware
Stunning performance to grab Munross title
Renfrewshire county champion Eilidh Briggs returned to winning form at the weekend to seal the Munross Trophy Open Women’s Tournament.
A stunning second round performance saw Briggs storm clear of Cardross Golf Club’s Jillian Farrell and Gabrielle MacDonald of Craigielaw Golf Club’s to take the top spot ahead of a competitive field at Montrose Medal Links on Sunday.
Briggs’ five under-par round of 68 was the best of the weekend and was enough to give her a two-stroke victory ahead of her two nearest rivals.
Representing Kilmalcolm Golf Club, Briggs was in control from start to finish as she led the pack at the end of the first round following an opening score of 71 over the first 18 holes.
A flurry of birdies towards the end of her round saw Briggs pick up shots at the 14th, 15th, and 18th, as well as picking up two shots with an eagle three on the 17th.
A double bogey at the 11th had seen her fall back down the standings, but instead of letting her head drop Briggs used it as motivation heading into the remainder of the back nine.
MacDonald and Farrell both came out shooting in the second round of action, both posting 69s in the afternoon to put the Renfrewshire golfer back under pressure.
Having to be at her very best, Briggs produced another fine round of golf to keep the challenge of her closest rivals at bay.
And she would go one shot better in the second round, recording a score of 36 over the front nine and a 32 over the back nine to seal the win.
Bogeys at the first and second hole had seen her falling back down the standings again, before birdies on the fifth and sixth hole got her back into a groove.
Further birdies would follow at the 10th, 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th as she stormed back ahead of the pack to take the silverware.
