Oh when the paints go marching in
Artist Rebecca’s t-shirts delight Buddies fans
A talented Paisley artist says her late father’s love of St Mirren has inspired her latest project.
Rebecca Cochrane would watch the Saints home and away with dad Allan until he tragically passed away five years ago.
But the 23- year- old mural painter has turned their shared passion into a fitting tribute to the man who introduced her to her hometown team.
She has recently taken time away from the giant murals that have become her speciality to immortalise some Saints heroes in stunning new t-shirts.
She said: “Dad used to take me to nearly every match, home and away. He was really well known around the club.
“When he died they had an article about him in the matchday programme because he was really well known.
“And I got a message on Facebook the other day from someone who clearly knew him.
“It said: ‘Your dad would be very proud’, which I thought was really nice.
“So far, the most popular t-shirts have featured Jack Ross and Stevie Mallan. People have been sending me ideas for who else to do.”
The t-shirts are emblazoned with the slogan This Love Will Last Forever – a current favourite with fans – and images of club legends such as Billy Abercromby and Ian Ferguson.
Former Gleniffer High pupil Rebecca says art has always been her passion.
She studied for an HND in illustration at the City of Glasgow College for three years and began painting murals across the country with the help of company Recoat Design.
“I’ve done murals in Glasgow, Easterhouse, Ayr and Edinburgh so far. I’d love to get involved in the mural trail in Paisley,” she explained.
“I applied to be part of the one in Lady Lane and the murals in Gilmour Street station, so hopefully with the City of Culture bid coming up it is a big opportunity for local artists.”
Though Rebecca’s bread and butter is her bright block-coloured murals, she says the t-shirts have provided a new outlet.
“Most of the time I’m a mural painter but the t-shirts have been going really well,” she explained.
She added: “I want to thank my mum Joanne and sister Bethany for their support ,and Amy Whiten and Ally Wyllie who have also helped me.
“And Scott Crawford at Mac Graphix has been helping me with the t-shirt printing process, so I’d like to thank them all for that.”
