Young goalkeepers are getting to grips with what it takes to be a professional at a new coaching school in Linwood.
Cumbernauld Colts keeper Chris Fahey launched his new GK Icon classes at the On-X, with a bumper turnout for the school’s opening night.
Youngsters were put through their paces with a number of drills, with Fahey ably assisted by some of his goalkeeping pals.
Du n d e e stopper David Mitchell, Oxford United’s Scott Shearer and Stranraer goalkeeper coach Eric Phillips were all on hand to help Fahey put the kids through their paces.
Fahey told Express Sport: “It was a fantastic night and everyone really got into the swing of things.
“About 40 kids between the ages of seven and 15 turned up and 20 of them signed up for the classes on the night. Both boys and girls were keen to get involved which was good, and there is definitely a lot of interest in what we are doing. I believe there is a real need for it and I have already had a number of local boys clubs approach me as well.”
Classes, which run on a Monday night between 6pm and 7pm are set to continue, with Fahey looking to expand the sessions across Renfrewshire in the future.
He added: “Having 40 to turn up to the launch event is fantastic. To have guys like Scott Shearer, David Mitchell and Eric Phillips there to lend a hand was brilliant as well and I am delighted that they were able to make it along.
“The kids had a question and answer session with us at the end of the night and the guys were great with them, telling them stories about their careers and giving the kids some tips.
“We are already looking to run another class and we are delighted with how things have went.”
