Renfrew squad taking shape for new season
First-team stalwarts commit to club
Renfrew FC have confirmed that a number of first-team regulars have committed their future to the side for the upcoming season.
Frew are hoping to build upon a successful first campaign back in the Super Leagues as they look to consolidate their position in the division, with a view to sneaking into the top flight thanks to league reconstruction.
Managers Colin Clark and Martin Ferry have been working hard behind the scenes in a bid to tie down the bulk of last season’s squad.
And they have also added to the ranks with a number of new signings joining the club.
Former Arthurlie man Kieron Maxwell has joined Renfrew following spells at Shettleston and St Anthony’s in recent reasons, with the winger impressing.
Connor McGuinness and David Quinn have both arrived from Rutherglen Glencairn Under-21s, while Graham Brown has signed from Glencairn’s junior side.
Jamie Docherty and Tam Miller have also agreed contracts at New Western Park, while Dominic Innes arrives from ‘Frew’s Under-21s.
In doing so, Innes becomes the first player from the 21s to sign for the club’s first team.
Meanwhile, despite losing a handful of key players from last season’s squad, Clark and Ferry are delighted to welcome back a number of familiar faces.
Chris Zok has returned to Cumbernauld United, Ross Gallacher has joined Kirkintilloch Rob Roy, Martin Brogan has signed for East Region outfit Fauldhouse United, while Anton Heffron has retired.
However, goalkeepers Dale Burgess and Daniel McLeay have both signed up for the new season. Burgess has become the club’s number one over the course of the last couple of seasons, beating off competition from the likes of McLeay and former stopper Mark Baird in recent years.
Experienced defender David Gordon has agreed to extend his spell at the club, while he will be joined by Fraser Barbour in defence.
Former Johnstone Burgh Under- 21s Scottish Cup winning captain, Kieran Healy will stay at the club for another season following an eye-catching breakthrough campaign which saw him seamlessly make the jump to the juniors.
Frew stalwarts, Paddy O’Keefe, Colin Forbes and Jamie Benton will all stay at the side, while Gregor Wylie and Scott Morton round off the re-signings as things currently stand. The club are still hopeful of a number of new additions as preparations begin to ramp up.
