Paisley Rugby Club produced another storming display with a gritty performance to triumph over Lenzie.

In their first competitive outing of the season, the Buddies welcomed Lenzie to The Anchor in the first round of the National Shield competition.

Heading into the clash, Paisley knew it wasn’t going to be an easy affair, and they were made to work hard for their victory.

Ho w e v e r, Pa i s l e y continued their unbeaten pre-season run as they ran out 30-24.

Tries from Michael Somerville, Sam Berry, Grant Berry and Martin McKellar were enough to seal the victory at the weekend.

But it proved to be more difficult than the side would have hoped for after they found themselves three tries down inside the opening 20 minutes.

Club captain Murray Sutherland admitted he was delighted with the way his side managed to turn the game on its head, after a slow start from the hosts almost saw them tumbling out of the competition at the first hurdle.

Sutherland told Express Sport: “Lenzie caught us cold in the first half and put on a great display as we thought they would.

“Lenzie were always going to be a tough team and they showed us that. However, well done to the boys to turn the game back around and score four unanswered trys.

“This was a great marker for us to see where we were at after pre -season and what we need to work on.

“I’m just glad we got the win to make it four wins out of four so far. Hopefully we can make it five out of five this week against Birkmyre.”

Paisley now progress into the quarter finals of the Shield, where they will meet Clydebank Rugby Football Club away on Saturday, September 30.
