Scott’s gearing up for mission

Chairman faces charity cycle

- Craig Ritchie

St Mirren supremo Gordon Scott is getting set to swap the boardroom for his bicycle as he saddles up in the name of charity.

Scott has teamed up with Paisley’s Pro-Life, run by Renfrewshire Sports Charity, as the gym’s cyclists take on Pedal for Scotland’s Classic Challenge.

Forty- five miles in total, the Pro- Life Pedalers will set off from Glasgow Green at 9am on Sunday, September 10, intent on reaching their intended target of Edinburgh.

A keen marathon runner, Scott has switched pounding the tarmac for a seat on his bike in recent months.

And, as he continues to get himself up to speed for the fundraiser, Scott revealed that he was always keen to take on the challenge.

Scott told Express Sport: “I’m delighted to be taking part. It was something that I was already planning to do, so, when Gayle asked me if I would be interested in representing the club and the charity, I was more than happy to do so.

“I have really got into cycling recently as I have had problems with my knees. I either had to give up running or football, and I would much rather play five-a-sides with my mates, so the running had to go.

“I was told that cycling would really help me stay in shape and I have been going to the gym and the classes there.

“The event is all for a good cause, so I am really looking forward to it.”

And Pro- Life are on the hunt for more budding cyclists to follow Gordon’s lead and sign-up for the event.

Gayle Brannigan, of Pro-Life, is also taking part, but has called on more to join the jaunt.

She added: “We have a team of 10 already signed up for the event and, in an ideal world, we would be looking to added another five.

“Anyone can get involved — all they need to do is contact the gym and get it sorted.

“You don’t need to be a keen cyclist — I haven’t been on a bike in years, so it will be a good laugh to see how I get on.

“But the Pro-Life Pedalers will be out in force and doing everything they can to raise money for the charity.

“To have Gordon involved is absolutely fantastic and I know he is looking forward to the afternoon.”
