Brute battered driver then smashed window with brick

- Gavin McInally

A violent thug threw a brick through a taxi driver’s window after battering him in a row over a spilled milkshake.

The shocking attack took place in Green Road, Paisley, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The yob, who was with two women at the time, called a cab to McDonald’s in the Phoenix Retail Park at around 4am.

It’s understood that the 59-yearold driver asked the trio not to eat their takeaway as he took them into town.

But a short distance into the trip, a milkshake was spilled over the back of the car, leading to an argument.

The man in the back started laying into the driver before getting out of the taxi and continuing to assault the stunned victim.

And as the driver drove off, the yob picked up a brick and hurled it through his window.

Fortunately, the man wasn’t seriously injured and was able to drive back to the Alpha Taxis base in Johnstone, where he alerted the cops to the attack.

Paisley Inspector Tracy Harkins last night appealed for witnesses to help cops trace the brute who attacked the driver.

She said: “This was a particularly reckless attack, where a man has thrown a brick through a taxi window while the driver was inside, which could have resulted in the driver being seriously injured.

“No one should have to tolerate being physically assaulted while they are doing their job.

“I would like to ask anyone who was in McDonald’s at around 4am on Saturday, September 2, who may have seen a man with two women before they entered a taxi, or anyone in Green Road who witnessed the attack a short time later, to contact police in Paisley.”

She added: “We are currently reviewing CCTV and following a positive line of enquiry, but any information anyone may have could be vital.”

Meanwhile, a teenage pervert shocked a taxi driver in Paisley when he exposed himself and performed a sex act in the back seat of his car.

The unsavoury incident happened in George Street at around 5pm on Friday.

The 27-year-old driver noticed the teen in his mirror before reporting him to the cops.

A Police Scotland spokesman last night said a 17- year- old man had been reported to the Procurator Fiscal in connection with a sexual offences charge.
