It’s back to work for Paisley MP
A Paisley politician says he is raring to go after returning to Westminster following the summer recess.
Gavin Newlands, SNP MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, has spent the break meeting local organisations and community groups to find out more about the work that they’re doing in Renfrewshire.
Now he is has set out his priorities for the year, including finding out what Brexit means for Renfrewshire and Scotland.
He said: “It’s been an incredibly busy summer as I have filled my diary in order to ensure that I can be out and about, meeting as many local organisations as possible.
“I would like to thank all the organisations and community groups who have met with me over the summer. I’ve met with well over 50 organisations over the past few weeks and the thing I take most from these meetings is that there’s so much fantastic work being done in Renfrewshire.
“I take pride in being a locally- based MP and look forward to meeting with more Renfrewshire organisations throughout the year.
“The UK Parliament returned this week and I will continue to work as hard as I can to ensure that Renfrewshire’s voice is heard in Westminster.
“The coming parliamentary session will present a range of challenges, none more so than making sense of Tory Brexit.
“The summer months have highlighted that the Tories are clueless about what Brexit will mean for our communities and businesses.
“Along with my SNP colleagues, I will work to stop the Tories from pulling us out from the single market and preventing a Tory power grab over responsibilities which are devolved to the Scottish Parliament.
“We will also continue to lead the way in demanding the UK Government do the right thing and guarantee the residency status of EU nationals who have made Scotland their home.” (Adjacent to Kwik Save car park, Paisley Road West)
