New-look Scottish Cup
Braehead Clan hockey and operations director Gareth Chalmers admits he is looking forward to this weekend’s Scottish Cup.
The Clan will be taking part in the new-look competition after it was decided to bring back the competition for the preseason.
John Tripp’s side will head to the nation’s captial as they prepare to take on Edinburgh Capitals in the first clash of the weekend.
The winners will then take back to the ice the following day at Murrayfield, against the victors of the tie between Fife Flyers and and Dundee Stars.
Clan have started to pick up the pace over pre-season, with Tripp recording a credible win over Manchester Storm at the weekend.
And Chalmers insists he hopes the competition remains a staple for years to come.
He said: “This weekend we have the first ever Scottish Elite Cup being held at Murrayfield Ice Rink in Edinburgh.
“It’s a concept we have discussed for a number of years now. As many of the longerterm fans will recall, the Scottish Cup has been a major part of the sport in Scotland West of Scotland has had success in the competition previously, with the Paisley Pirates defeating the Fife Flyers 8-4 in 1997. With the launch of this new competition we are hoping it becomes a regular addition to the EIHL schedule up here in Scotland.
“Ou r s e l v e s, Du n d e e, Edinburgh and Fife all want the Scottish bragging rights so I am sure it will be superb weekend ahead.”
