A prowler has targeted a series of Paisley homes during a frightening nighttime break-in spree.

Police have responded to several reports of a man targeting homes in the Lounsdale area of town, near to the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

During one break- in, in the early hours of Thursday morning, a stunned couple in Riccartsbar Avenue heard the intruder opening drawers in their hallway.

At around 2am, the 31-yearold householder was woken by the sound of the stranger in her home and she alerted her partner.

The prowler fled emptyhanded when he heard footsteps heading towards him.

Around two hours later, in nearby Main Road, several thousand pounds in cash was stolen from a home, before the thief drove off in an Audi A4 he pinched from the driveway.

The keys to the silver car, which has a P7 PPR registration plate, had been lifted from inside the 54-year-old victim’s home.

Five similar break- ins or attempted break-ins in the area have been reported to cops in Paisley over the past week.

Police also received reports of prowlers in back gardens in the Corsebar Avenue area in the early hours of Friday morning.

Inspector Tracy Harkins, who is based in Mill Street, last night stressed the importance of householders being vigilant.

She said: “There has been a spate of break-ins and attempted break- ins in the area and we believe someone is targeting homes, checking to see if windows and doors are secure, in an attempt to get inside.

“I would like to remind householders about the importance of keeping their homes secure, making sure doors and windows are locked to prevent opportunistic thieves from stealing their properties.

“I would also ask for neighbours to look out for any suspicious activity and, if they see someone they believe is attempting to break into a home, then to report it to police immediately.”

She added: “We have stepped up patrols in the area in response to these incidents.

“I would ask anyone who has any information about the whereabouts of any stolen goods, or the stolen silver A4 Audi, to contact police in Paisley on 101.”
