Care worker faces being struck off She ‘washed residents against their will’

- Colette Crampsey

A care home worker faces being struck off over allegations she washed two elderly residents against their will.

It’s claimed Debra Collins left two service users feeling distressed when she wet their hair and clothes with wipes after they refused to shower.

Collins, who works as a senior care assistant at Elderslie Care Home in Paisley, was supposed to be looking after the vulnerable clients whom, it’s alleged, she made feel uncomfortable.

She is being hauled in front of a Social Services Council ( SSSC) disciplinary hearing for the allegations made against her.

The hearing will consider claims that Collins wet the hair and clothes of a resident - referred to only as ‘AA’ - with a wet wipe when they refused to bathe on September 16, 2015, causing them distress.

A panel will decide whether the worker is fit to practise when it meets later this month.

It will also rule on allegations Collins subjected another elderly service user, known only as ‘BB’, to the same treatment some time during the same month, also to their distress.

SSSC chiefs will now decide if Collins’ fitness to practice is “impaired” and if her treatment amounts to serious misconduct.

Collins is employed by BUPA Care Homes (Carrick) Limited, which runs Elderslie Care Home.

Located in Fulbar Road, the service provides assistance to the elderly, those with dementia and parkinsons and palliative care.

The disciplinary panel will be held between October 30 and November 24 in Dundee, with a result expected in the following weeks.
