Ayr keeper gives ladies a headache

- Pro-Life Kelburne Ladies 2s.........1 Ayr.........1

A Kelburne side packed with young guns produced a spirited performance as they sealed a draw with Ayr.

After a rocky start during the week, with many of the squad players away on a hockey tour, Kelburne managed to convince some of the club’s rising stars of the third XI and some of their experienced players to step up and represent the 2s against Ayr.

Captain Jen Morgan gave the side all the information needed to go out and play their socks off and that’s exactly what happened.

It was a hard, physical game, with lots of possession for both teams, but is was Kelburne that broke the deadlock first.

After a quick time-out, due to an injury to a rival player, and a quick chat about positioning, Emma Ryan found herself winning a foul in Ayr’s 23.

She played a fast pass to Morgan at top D, who pinged it back post for Ambar Hendry to slide it past the keeper.

A great reaction from the crowd spurred on the side.

But, unfortunately, a small lapse in concentration allowed Ayr to get a short corner and, with a practice swing, they squeezed it in back post to level up the scores before half-time.

The second half started with a belief that Kelburne could hold on and push for the win.

But they just couldn’t get it past the keeper, even with some fantastic play all over the park.

The defensive line-up, led by Nicola Brown, did a fantastic job denying Ayr any chance of pulling ahead. Grace Cowan also played superbly at left back in her first game for the 2s.
