Awards to honour youth
Young people nominated for the seventh Positive About Youth awards will soon find out if they have won at this year’s ceremony in Renfrew.
The sold- out youth celebration event will honour the outstanding qualities of young people aged between 12 and 25 in Renfrewshire next month.
The awards, organised by community- based forum Renfrewshire Youth Voice and supported by Renfrewshire Council’s Youth Services, will take place in the Normandy Hotel, on Wednesday, November 8.
The ten awards categories are: 2021 Culture Award; Skills Award; Discovery Award; Young Volunteer of the Year; Young Musician of the Year; Young Carer of the Year; Youth Group of the Year; Ferran Hart Young Artist Award; Eilish Herron Young Sports Person Award and The Unsung Hero Award.
Councillor Jim Paterson, convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Education and Children’s Services Policy Board, said: “The Positive About Youth awards are a fantastic way to highlight the great things achieved by young people in Renfrewshire.
“We have a huge amount of accomplished and committed youngsters in the area and these awards highlight the great work and results that can be achieved. “
“I find it really encouraging that through their work, Renfrewshire Youth Voice discover and recognize the great attributes and talents of our young people.”
Mark Dougan, chairman of Renfrewshire Youth Voice, added: “Recognising the achievements of young people in Renfrewshire is really important.
“It allows everyone to see the positive effects young people can have on their local communities.
“Young people have a great potential to succeed and the Positive about Youth awards continue to build a genuinely favourable image of young people in the area.”
