Mack’s ‘vile’ campaign

-

This letter is in response to the front page article (October 24) regarding Councillor Mack’s suspension.

During my very unsuccessful campaign in the Paisley South ward in May’s local election, Councillor Mack successfully stood in the same ward as myself.

His campaign was utterly vile, his campaign material comprised of a series of fabricated personal attacks on the incumbent councillors Eddie Devine and Marie McGurk.

Mr Mack’s recent and welcomed suspension is long overdue.

His behaviour over the years as a councillor and during this year’s campaign have been consistently shocking.

In the lead up to the election, Mr Mack hijacked the Save the RAH Paisley Kids Ward campaign — organised by Councillor Carolann Davidson and other Labour politicians — to draw attention to himself.

Unsurprisingly, since he has been elected, Mr Mack has been absent from the campaign and silent about the issue.

Of course, I could be accused of bitterness after failing to be elected and Mr Mack being reelected, but it was no surprise to me or anyone else that I wasn’t.

What is more of a surprise to me is that people continue to vote for such an attention-seeker as Mr Mack.

I would say I must be missing something, but I’m sure I’m not. Ben Smith Via email

It really feels like crunch time now that the UK City of Culture 2021 judges have visited Paisley.

From what I heard, they were given a warm welcome to our town. The fact that they were greeted at Glasgow Airport by a group of Highland dancers was a nice touch.

I noticed people up and down the High Street who were cleaning chewing gum off the pavements ahead of the judges’ visit.

If we don’t win, at least this is just one of the many positive improvements that have come as a result of the bid.

Paisley has a lot of features to boast, like the abbey and Coats Memorial Church, to name a few.

I hope the judges were impressed and learned a thing or two about our culture and heritage.

I also hope they see the potential that Paisley holds and that they back the blueprint of plans set out for the town, should we win the title.

I can’t wait to find out the result — fingers crossed our bid succeeds. Sarah Matthews Paisley
