St Mirren Netball Club’s first team moved up to fourth spot in the league with a credible win over Harmony Row.

The Buddies were back to their best in their fourth outing of the season. But a hard-fought win wasn’t without its own controversy following an issue with the posts.

All players fought tooth and nail and worked hard to pressure every ball, from which they were rewarded with a number of turnovers.

Some excellent play from Susie Reid and fast movement from Lauren Wright ensured that the Saints took full advantage of the turnovers as they converted at the other end of the court to ensure they took the half-time lead.

The second half saw St Mirren continue to build on their lead and establish a strong foothold in the game.

They continued in the same vein and were in fine form as they recorded a 39-35 victory.

A club spokeswoman added: “It was a great, all-round team performance, with some areas to build upon in training to ensure we are ready to smash the next game too.”

Lauren Wright was also on hand to pick up the player of the month.

Elsewhere, St Mirren’s second side faced a strong Bellahouston Braves team as they came up just short of a remarkable win. The 40-18 scoreline was wider than the result would suggest, with Saints displaying some fine play.

The Paisley side started well and found themselves 6-5 ahead at the end of the first quarter.

Saints, however, had a number of injuries to contend with, but everybody continued to give their all.

Unfortunately, for Saints, Braves managed to rise up through the gears in the last quarter, despite the Paisley side fighting all the way to the very end.

Geraldine Smith took player of the match, while Stephanie Barr was crowned players’ player.

A club spokeswoman added: “We have a big break now, so lots of time to get working on cementing different combinations and set plays ahead of our next match.”
