We’ll tame the big spenders, says gaffer

-

Renfrew manager Colin Clark admits‘Frew will be battling the big bucks when they welcome Cambuslang Rangers this afternoon.

Paul McColl’s Rangers boast a wealth of talent after raiding the coffers to bring in a host of experienced players.

Former Glenafton skipper Craig Meikle will marshall the defence, with former Ayr United and Clyde centre back Chris Smith also among the ranks. Ex-St Mirren kid Jamie McKernon, from Renfrew, is also in the Cambuslang side, as is fellow former Buddie Craig Molloy, as they look to mount back-to-back promotion bids.

Clark concedes today’s opponents have funding that Renfrew could only dream of when it comes to bringing in players – however, he has complete faith in his side to go out and show that they are worth their weight in gold.

Clark said:“It goes without saying that we expect a tough game. Cambuslang are big spenders.

“Craig Molloy was captain at Brechin City last season, Meikle, from Glenafton, is a good player, and Chris Smith has experience of the senior game so we know exactly the type of side that we are up against.

“They have good pedigree but we have already shown that we have what it takes against some of the league’s big spenders.

“We know we are never going to be able to compete financially with a number of sides in this division, but we have proved so far that we are capable of competing with them on the pitch.

“It is up to us to prove that money isn’t always everything.

“We just need to continue to accumulate as many points as we possibly can and see where it takes us this season.

“But we know that we will have to be at our best in order to come away with the points.”

And having had the opportunity to assess his side’s start to the season, Clark has called for focus as they look to continue their winning run.

He added:“Yes, it’s been a good start.

“But we can’t get too carried away. There are no givens in this league and we need to keep on picking up the three points.

“We know that one poor run could see us falter so we need to make sure that doesn’t happen.

“The potential is there for us to have a really good season. I am really happy so far so long may it continue.”
