Laura is Scotland’s golden girl
She wins national championship
Renfrew badminton ace Laura Muir has been crowned Scottish Masters National Champion with a stunning victory in Glasgow.
Muir was in action at the coveted event, seeing off a host of rivals to clinch the gold medal following the round robin.
She remained undefeated throughout the tournament, seeing off Clare Johnstone with relative ease in her opening encounter.
A scoreline of 21- 13, 21- 6 confirmed her dominance, though Muir’s second match was to prove more difficult.
Laura told Express Sport: “My most challenging match was against Aileen Travers.
“I lost the first game, and was 20-16 down in the second. I had to dig deep to take the second game 22-20 and then won the third deciding game 21-8.”
And from that point onwards there was no looking back.
A 21-10, 21-17 win over Dorothy Jim was next on the cards, before she soared to the top of the podium with a storming 21-10, 21-6 victory over Deborah Craig in her last outing.
It put the seal on a successful few months for Muir, after she was won the Scottish Bonanza, in Glasgow, back in September.
And there is yet more excitement on the cards, after she was named on the reserve list for the Scottish Grand Prix that takes place later this month at the Emirates Arena between November 22 and 26.
The Scottish Open is an annual event that is part of the Badminton World Federation Grand Prix series.
It is the third oldest Championship in world badminton and always features entries from the top international badminton stars.
And Laura will also be bringing in the new year with a bang, travelling to Iceland in January to compete in the Iceland International as she looks to continue her winning form into 2018.
