Delighted at Mòd news
To celebrate Paisley being named as the host of the Royal National Mòd in the next five years, I highlighted the important cultural and economic role of the event in parliament last week.
If Paisley is named UK City of Culture, the town will stage the celebration – the annual festival of Scottish Gaelic culture –as part of it’s fantastic events programme in 2021. I was delighted to hear that Ferguslie Community Council is now formally established and up and running.

If Paisley is somehow not named UK City of Culture – although the notion is so ridiculous I can scarcely believe I’ve typed it – for 2021, then we will host the Mòd in 2022.
Paisley held the the event with great success in 2013 and it is wonderful to see that it will be returning to the town again.
The Mòd will hopefully form part of a world-class cultural programme in 2021 as a part of the UK City of Culture celebrations.
Great to see new community council launched
local communities.
Community councils are a great way to get involved and to have a say in what happens in your area and I would encourage more people to take part.
These councils bring local people together to help make things happen, and many of them protect and promote the identity of their community.
Congratulations to Ferguslie Community Council on their establishment and I look forward to working with them in the near future. ● I recently joined the celebrations to mark the success of Glasgow Airport’s FlightPath Fund, which has been providing support to local charities and community groups since 2010.
The fund was established to ensure our communities share in the airport’s success and has so far awarded over £1.25 million
