Prize guys celebrate their cycling success
Paisley Velo reflects on another great year as it dishes out awards
Paisley Velo Cycling Club dished out the prizes as they held their sixth annual general meeting.
The committee, consisting of chairman Derek McBurnie, vice chairman Liam McDaid, and events and social media manager Colin Sales welcomed the members to the meeting and prizegiving, held at Bernie’s Café Deli, in Bridge of Weir.
The event also included a raffle of cycling related prizes that were kindly donated from Ricardo Pallisco, of Cyclefix Scotland.
The chairman reflected on a very successful year for the club, which now has 55 members, with around eight new additions.
Derek explained: “We are delighted to have catered for a wide range of people with varying ability and experience in the sport throughout the year.
“We have riders who are competing at the Velodrome, on the roads and the dirt tracks, yet we welcome new riders to our Sunday Wee Ring runs, which average 25-35 miles and at a pace to suit the slowest riders.
“We are very much proud of our ethos of welcoming new riders and helping cyclists improve and progress through the various levels within the club.
“If you enjoy cycling, get in touch with us through our website and we will be more than happy to have a chat with you about where you would like to take your cycling.
“I would have to say that riding in a well-organised bunch on a club run is simply exhilarating and very enjoyable indeed. You will see your fitness levels reach new height when you cycle regularly, so it is a great way to keep in shape.
“We also wish to expand on our female member numbers and we are seeing more woman showing interest in the sport, so come on girls, get in touch and don’t be daunted by the prospect as we will ease you into the fray.”
The big winners on the night saw Colin Sales crowned Club Rider of the Year. Sam McGrath picked up an award for Time Trial Champion, while James McKenzie took third place for Hill Climbing, and Simon Arnold received the award for Time Trials.
