MP calls on bank branch axe u-turn

-

Gavin Newlands, SNP MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, has repeated calls for the Royal Bank of Scotland to reverse their planned closure of its Renfrew branch.

He said that after a recent visit to the branch, he received an email from RBS thanking him and asking him to provide feedback on how they could better improve the local service.

He was also asked whether he would recommend the branch to family or friends.

“The first thing that RBS could do to help improve the experience is by reversing this extremely disappointing decision to close this popular branch – that’s the best thing they can do to make me recommend their bank to a family member or friend,” said Mr Newlands.

“I can’t fault the service I’ve always received when I visit this local branch. The staff at RBS Renfrew are well-known for the fantastic service they provide, going above and beyond to help all local punters.”

Mr Newlands has organised a meeting with a senior official at RBS to ask them to look again at this decision.

He said: “The Royal Bank of Scotland caused a lot of anger when they announced that they were going to close its popular Renfrew branch.

“I look forward to meeting with senior officials of the RBS to find out why they’ve made this disappointing and nonsensical decision.

“Make no mistake, I will be passing on the feedback from everyone in Renfrew that the way the RBS can retain their loyal customers is by cancelling this decision and keeping the RBS Renfrew branch open.”
