Brace yourself for the big chill
Sub-zero temperatures to hit this weekend
Treacherous icy conditions and sub-zero temperatures are set to hit Renfrewshire this weekend.
Residents are being warned by the Met Office to take care when out and about as temperatures look set to plummet to as low as minus eight degrees.
Met Office spokesman Grahame Madge told the Express that the change in temperature is quite dramatic.
“Today and yesterday has been largely unsettled due to a low pressure system.
“This is why we’ve seen a lot of rain and wind.
“Once we get into Saturday the weather will change substantially.
“There will be much colder temperatures in Renfrewshire.
“We’re looking at lows of minus four on Saturday, and minus five on Sunday.
“Arctic winds and high pressure are to blame for this.
“While it will be really dry and sunny, temperatures will go right down,” Grahame said.
The region saw colder weather and heavy snowfall over the festive period and earlier in December.
Travel chaos ensued for motorists and icy conditions posed a real danger for pedestrians.
Recent milder conditions had Buddies believing the winter weather was gone for good.
The new warning from the Met Office, however, means the big freeze is back with a vengeance all weekend.
Grahame explained that the freezing conditions are set to last until Monday.
“While Tuesday will still bring a real cold front, the worst of it will be over by then
“Saturday and Sunday will pose the most problems, as well as Monday morning.
Rural areas in Renfrewshire should see temperatures dip to minus eight overnight, mirroring conditions in Glasgow city centre.
“This weather could cause serious problems for drivers with lots of frost on the ground and in the air,” Grahame added.
“Rural areas may be affected the most with temperatures at night time going down to minus eight.
“Anyone out and about overnight in the town centres, or rural areas, should be wary.”
