University gives retiring professor a great send off
Academic focused on building uni’s reputation
Paisley gave a fond farewell to a much-loved professor who played an integral part in developing one of the town’s top educational institutions.
Professor Paul Martin CBE, is retiring from his duties as Depute Principal at the University of the West of Scotland.
Friends, family and colleagues gathered at the university’s Paisley campus for a dinner to send the acclaimed academic off in style.
P ro f e s s o r Ma r t i n ’s responsibilities focused on achieving a national and international reputation for the university’s learning and research.
He took up the role of Depute Principal in 2013 and was awarded a CBE last year in recognition of his services to health and education.
Professor Martin said: “It has been a privilege to be part of the contribution that UWS makes to changing people’s lives.
“The university’s students and staff have much to be proud of.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked alongside them.”
At the event, he was presented with an engraved decanter set.
A roundel relief of a winged Genius created by Professor Alexander Stoddart, Sculptor in Ordinary to Her Majesty The Queen in Scotland, was also gifted to the Professor.
Professor Stoddart’s studio is based at the Paisley Campus.
