Blade thug turned on Good Samaritans

Knife threat after duo intervened in blazing street row

- David Campbell

Cops are hunting a thug who pulled a blade on two Good Samaritans who tried to intervene in a heated street bust-up.

Officers say the pair, aged 19 and 20, stepped in when they saw a man hurling abuse at a woman in Causeyside Street.

However, as they approached the couple the yob turned on the men and produced a knife, forcing them to immediately back off and alert the police.

Cops are now hunting the blade brute and have appealed to members of the public who may have information on the incident to come forward.

The suspect is described as white, aged between 40 and 50, and was wearing a black leather jacket and jeans. It is understood the male and female may have been drinking in Vienna’s nightclub prior to the disturbance before making their way down Causeyside Street close to Stow Brae and Canal Street.

The shocking incident unfolded at around 2am on Saturday.

Inspector Tracy Harkins, from Paisley’s community policing team, has appealed for any witnesses to the incident to come forward, especially the woman involved in the altercation.

She said: “The two witnesses approached a male and female who were involved in an argument in the street at around 2am on Saturday morning in Causeyside Street.

“As they went to intervene, the male produced a knife and the two witnesses had to back off.

“This was a nasty incident and we are appealing for the help of members of the public to help trace those involved.

“We would like to speak to the female involved in the incident or any other potential witnesses who may have seen or heard this disturbance.”
