Play-offs setback for struggling Clan

Craig Ritchie Braehead Clan suffered a crushing setback in their fight to make the play-offs following a defeat to Dundee Stars on Saturday.

The Clan were only in action once this weekend, but up against a Stars side also searching for the a play-off berth, they had been keen to see of their rivals at Braehead Arena.

Omar Pacha’s Stars arrived looking to bring an end to a poor run of seven straight losses – and they got the perfect start when they opened the scoring inside the first minute.

Chris Lawrence was the man to break the deadlock, picking up the puck before despatchin­g a low effort beyond Ryan Nie and into the bottom corner.

But John Tripp’s side were gunning for a win of their own following a disappoint­ing previous weekend.

Clan soon levelled minutes later when a strike from Adam Brace appeared to catch out Dundee goalkeeper Travis Fullerton before nestling in the back of the net after he failed to collect at the second attempt.

Brace then got his second goal of the night early in the middle period as he arrived late in front of goal before prodding Jacob Doty’s effort low under Fullerton to put the hosts ahead.

Former Clan man Cody Carlson came back to bite his former employers when he fired from the blue line, before Lawrence then doing the same as the home side struggled to clear the lines.

The puck eventually fell to Jimmy Jensen just outside the crease and he got the touch to take the puck past Nie to restore parity.
