Please turn out and roar us on to victory

Turley’s plea to fans

- Craig Ritchie

Paisley Pirates head coach Ian Turley is calling on his team’s supporters to turn out in big numbers for their crucial home match against Kirkcaldy Kestrels tomorrow night.

The game has taken on added incentive, with a match which could well have a bearing on the destination of this year’s SNL title.

Pirates are currently sitting two points adrift of leaders Dundee Comets but have a game in hand.

Turley said: “The game against the Tigers typified the way we’ve gone about ourbusiness this season.

“We worked hard, gave away very little, and the goals were spread around the team once again. It’s not been a case of one or two players scoring the goals, everyone’s been chipping in.

“We only conceded two minor penalties on the night and obviously if you’re keeping a full unit on the ice you’re not defending power-plays.”

And Turley admits it could prove to be a tough weekend for his side as they look to maintain their recent unbeaten run of form.

“It’s certainly going to be a challenging weekend for the boys,” he said, after watching his team inflict a 4-1 defeat on Dundee Tigers last Sunday as they prepare to return to the Ice Arena to take on Dundee Comets tonight.

“We’ll play two of our most difficult games of the season in the space of 24 hours, and it’s a tribute to our entire squad that we’re still one of the teams in the mix on the penultimate weekend of league action.”

And with the business end of the season now fast-approaching, Turley is keen for the focus to remain as he and coach Adam Walker look to reap the benefits of the hard work that has been put in both on and off the ice.

He added: “The boys have worked hard all season, there’s hardly been a missed session by any of them, and they’ve really embraced exactly what the club is about. I think the fans have realised that and have got right behind them.

“Adam and I are asking supporters to turn out in numbers on Sunday for the tie against the Kestrels, and, if they can make it, to Dundee on Saturday.

“Regardless of the outcome, this squad deserves a large and noisy support to be right behind them at the weekend, and in tough games an extra few voices cheering you on can sometimes be the difference.”
