PAEDOPHILE HUNTERS TERRIFY YOUNG MUM

- David Campbell

A terrified mum was left cowering in her flat after masked paedophile hunters burst into her close.

Sarah Carruthers, 27, who lives alone with her baby son, watched on in horror as vigilantes tried to boot down the door of two convicted sex offenders.

She is now desperate for a move from her flat.

Sarah said: “When I looked out my front door I saw a guy in a gas mask who was with another guy.

“They were writing stuff on the door. Then they started shouting and trying to kick down the door. I was absolutely terrified.”

A young mum last night told how masked paedophile hunters have left her terrified to leave her own home.

Sarah Carruthers, 27, who lives with her one year-old son, revealed her fears of staying in the same building as two convicted sex offenders - and encountering the yobs who regularly hound them.

The vile pair, who we have chosen not to name, have lived in the same block of Renfrew flats as Sarah and her child for the last year.

Now she is demanding a move after the latest incident saw masked men burst into the close of the Houston Street flats.

The former beauty therapy student told The Paisley Daily Express: “I heard stones hitting my window. Then a short time later I heard shouting in the close outside my flat.

“When I looked out I saw a guy in a gas mask, the kind painters wear.

“I could hear him speaking to someone, so I think there must have been two of them. They were writing stuff on the door.

“Then they started shouting and trying to kick down the door.

“I was absolutely terrified. It is really scary to see someone in a mask outside your door. I’m alone here with my son.”

Sarah has tried to get a move from her Renfrewshire Council flat but has had no luck.

Now she fears the problems could come to her door.

“Over the last two months, I would say, things have got worse.

“Something bad happens maybe once a week. I’m just so scared they will get the wrong flat one night and come in my door when I’m at home with my son,” she said.

“People have poured curdled milk through their letterbox and all sorts.

“They have tried to kick the door down and it is only getting worse.

“The police have told me that something actually has to happen to me or my property. But it is terrifying that it is happening near my door.”

Not only does Sarah fear she could be in the firing line by mistake, but she has to live with the knowledge that she lives in the same building as sex fiends.

“I don’t want to go outside. I have a young son, he is only one, and then I have these two living close by. It makes me feel really uncomfortable.

“Why would these two be housed close to a young family? Is there not somewhere else they can go? Or can they not help me get a move?

“I don’t think it is appropriate and now I’m trying to deal with all the other stuff that comes with it. The vandalism, the violence.”

A Renfrewshire Council spokesman said they are in contact with Sarah over her request to move

The spokesman added: “Addressing the resident’s concerns is a priority for the council and housing officers are in contact to provide support and are discussing her request.

“The safety of all Renfrewshire residents is of paramount importance to us and anyone with any safety concerns should contact Police Scotland on 101.”

Police in Renfrew said they are aware of the situation but declined to comment further.
