Jack says thanks to kids and parents

Clear-up delights the boss

- Craig Ritchie

St Mirren manager Jack Ross has said thanks to around 100 young players and parents who turned out to clear the Ralston pitch on Sunday.

Youngsters from the club’s Ralston Youth Academy were joined by their parents to clear the surface following last weekend’s blizzard conditions.

Armed with shovels, and anything else they could find, everyone worked together to make the surface suitable for playing on.

They were joined in their efforts by the Saints gaffer, as well as head of youth Allan McManus and coaches Andy Webster and Ross Paterson.

And Ross insists he was blown away by the numbers that turned out to lend a helping hand.

He told Express Sport: “Allan McManus had said to me at the weekend that the players and parents, and other youngsters involved in the academy, were coming in on Sunday to clear the pitch so I was more than happy to pop down and help them do that.

“I think it is important that they understand my support for the work that the academy does as well, so I ended upt here for a few hours.

“I was tired by the end of it, I must admit, but it was good and it obviously helps a whole host of squads.

“I said thanks to everyone that helped at the end, and Allan thanked them as a group, but I don’t often get to see the level of support those parents provide.

“It’s mostly because I am so busy with stuff for the first team – but seeing the numbers that turned out to clear the snow off the park was incredible, although I’m sure a few parents were maybe just delighted to get their kids out the house.”
