Vandals spray vile abuse on gable end
Police launch investigation and appeal for witnesses
Mindless vandals climbed scaffolding to a daub an offensive slogan on flats as workers prepared to carry out a major refurbishment
The gable end of a Paisley Housing Association building in Orchy Crescent was emblazoned with the words “F**k the Police”.
Councillors and police have appealed for information to help catch the yobs who targeted the block. It is understood they clambered up scaffolding before leaving their abusive calling card for the community to see between February 24 and 25.
Housing association officials say they are deeply disappointed by the incident but say planned works to upgrade housing in the area will not be affected.
Elaine Thomson, technical manager, said: “Rather than simply replacing failing render, Paisley Housing Association’s Management Committee decided to invest £1.5million in tenants’ homes in Foxbar Rivers to fit external wall insulation and also to re-roof the blocks of flats.
“Homes are now more energy efficient and therefore easier to heat.
“It was important to us to use this substantial investment to make a big difference to the attractiveness of the buildings.
“And everyone has been very happy with the improvements.
“It is disappointing that we have had an isolated incident of graffiti. But this has been dealt with.
“We expect to complete the project soon.”
Councillor Stephen Burns has slammed the vandals over the ear sore tag, saying the community has no space for this type of behaviour.
He said: “The housing association has been spending lots of money upgrade the homes, so it is really disappointing to see some of the hard work will need to be redone.
“It looks like the vandals have climbed up on scaffolding and spray painted the building.
“It is abysmal behaviour really and not acceptable. This sort of behaviour can’t be tolerated and if anyone has any information as to who was behind it, then I would urge you to contact the police.
“Everyone is working to bring Foxbar up and we don’t need this sort of thing to bring it down.”
Police Scotland said it is aware of the issue and enquiries are ongoing.
They added that they are investigating the incident and have called on anyone from the local community who may have information to get in touch.
