-

Renfrewshire trio Erin Waddell, Marc Graham and Iona Muir have learned who they will face at this weekend’s Badminton Championships.

The draws for the Scottish National Junior Under-13 and Under-17 Badminton Championships have been made as Scotland’s next generation of talented youngsters prepare to take to the court at Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility in Motherwell today.

Girls Singles top seed Brooke Stalker, recent winner of the Victor Junior Olve, and second seed Katrina Chan both have a bye to the second round of the Under-13 girls singles, but will team up in the Girls Doubles and play Muir, of Renfrew, and Eva Tremble.

Muir has received a bye in the singles competition, where she will face the winner of the clash between Ishbel McCallister and Tremble in the next round.

Joseph O’Neil Ferrero is seeded 3/4 in the singles, but is second seed in the Mixed Doubles with Muir, where the duo face Keith Bray and Pranavi Singh.

In the Under-17 boys competition, Graham, of Lochwinnoch, has also received a bye in the singles after being seeded. He will face Ben Kay in the second round as he looks to come away with the glory.

Graham then teams up with Jodie Black in the mixed doubles, where the duo face Isaac Weir and Katherine Martin. And Graham is also in action in the boys doubles alongside Jamie Gunn as they take on Joseph Caryle and Callum Stokes.

Waddell teams up with Alice Campbell to take on Emma Donald and Zoe Gunn.

She also partners Kenneth Cheung as they face Logan Ireland and Karyn Swan in the mixed doubles, while she has been handed a bye in the first round of the singles.

Badminton Scotland chief executive Anne Smillie said:“Seeing the draws be made for these competitions is always an exciting indication of how close they are.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming the best young Scottish players to Motherwell and hope they all have a fantastic time.

“The strength of junior badminton in the country is getting better and better, as seen by recent results at all age-groups, and the National Championships are a chance for us to showcase that more and more.”
