Coach’s plea to title-chasing squad

Paisley Rugby Club head coach Gordon Powrie insists his side are fully focused on achieving promotion as they edge closer to their target.

The Buddies take on Strathendrick this afternoon in what could prove to be part one of a two-part shoot-out for the West Division Two league title.

Powrie’s side come into the clash sitting pretty at the top of the league, which has been the case for most of the season, while Strathendrick are fourth with four games in hand over the league leaders.

The last time the two sides met at The Anchor was October 2015 with Paisley emerging with a 71-0 victory.

Another win will be the only thing on Powrie’s mind as his side continue their quest for the title.

He said: “This is what rugby is all about, the boys have went up against it all season and we have a chance to create something special in the next month.

“We have four games left, win them all and we have a real shot at winning the league.

“The team have worked incredibly hard since May last year and everyone is motivated to make that final push. Every week gets harder but I am confident we can come out on top.

“We have a really talented group of players and they have just got better and better as the season has gone on.”

With the conditions becoming more favourable to Paisley’s attacking strengths, the writing could be on the wall for the Strathendrick defence.

And, having already scored 671 points in the league, Paisley’s attack will be looking to once again set the scoreboard on fire.

Powrie added: “As an attacking unit, we put the fear in defences and with the better weather and harder ground we will continue to get better and better.

“The supporters have been brilliant this season and it’s a real motivation for everyone to see them come out in force for games. It’s great to see what it means to everyone around the club and a league title would be sweet for everyone.”

Fixtures: Uddingston RFC v Millbrae, Paisley v Strathendrick RFC, Cumnock RFC v Loch Lomond, Waysiders Drumpellier v Strathaven.
