Alan takes over at Hamishes’ Hoose

Publican says High Street bar will re-open this weekend

13.04.2018 It’s not last orders after all for an iconic Paisley pub, as one Buddie takes matters into his own hands.

Alan Maxwell has stepped up to the plate, serving good news to customers of Hamishes’ Hoose.

Regulars at the High Street pub were devastated when news broke that the watering hole would be closing its doors after three decades.

Swooping in days after the closure announcement, bar owner Alan, 49, is promising punters the pub will re-open this weekend.

He told the Express: “Hamishes’ Hoose is such a legendary food and drink venue in Paisley.

“I saw a really good opportunity to take this project on.

“Seeing the pub go would have been such a loss.

“That’s why I made enquiries straight away.”

Pub boss Piero Pieraccini, 66, had been forced to close Hamishes’ Hoose after insurers refused to pay out following a kitchen fire.

The legendary landlord, famed for bringing top music and comedy acts to the town, insists he lost more than £40,000 after the blaze halted his busy lunch trade.

Noticing the announcement made to customers on social media, Alan moved fast to ensure the pub was saved.

“I own Pockets Pool and Snooker Club in the town,” he added.

“I also co-own Cosmopolitan and another pub in Cumbernauld, so I’m not new to this.

“Piero and I met within a day or two and the deal was done.

“Hamishes’ has such a good reputation and we want to continue this.”

While Alan knows he has big shoes to fill, the optimistic businessman has big plans for the place.

“Locals love the food menu here so that won’t change,” Alan said.

“However, we’re going to make the meals a lot cheaper, then scrap the buy one get one free deal.

“I’m also hoping to get some work done in the toilets and back hallway. These improvements will make a difference.”

Once a hub of activity in Paisley’s night scene, Alan hopes to reinject some buzz into the pub.

“We’re up for trying everything; quiz nights, pool, music, comedy, you name it,” he said.

“Staff are all keeping their jobs so we’ll be fully covered for this.”

Frantically cooking, cleaning and stocking up for the re-launch, Alan promises Express readers Hamishes’ Hoose will be open this weekend.

“There’s a great team here and the place is in good shape.

“I look forward to seeing everyone back in the pub this weekend.”
