Spoilt for choice this weekend

- Sadly, Hamishes’ Hoose is now closed.

The Hoose played a major part in keeping live music going in Paisley when very little else was going on.

Piero Pieracinni took a risk in getting in a variety of bands from covers to original artists and also gave young bands a place to play.

Fred McAulay had his first gig with Piero as did many other comedians.

I don’t know how many times I’ve commented “keep music live” “support your local venues” or “use ‘em before you lose ‘em”.

Tragically it’s gone but hopefully not forgotten.

To all the staff and Piero thanks for all the years from me, all the bands and of course the punters.

After losing a venue like this, it is all the more important that we support live music and we can start with getting along to one or more gigs that are on in Paisley this week.

Cherry Red and Stewart Mac are at The Bungalow tonight.

This is an unforgettable acoustic show which is part of The State of the Union Tour 2018.

Entry opens at 6pm, doors are at 7pm and curfew is at 10pm. Tickets cost £19. Tomorrow night is a James tribute night with newly formed group, Born of Frustration.

The band is one of the UK’s top tribute bands to a jewel in Manchester’s crown.

Local well known Paisley guitarist Jay Fitzpatrick, of Loud n Proud and ex Status Quoing, plays lead for the band.

He has just finished a huge UK tour with Emily Middlemas and he can’t wait to play at The Bungalow.

Jay said: “I’m looking forward to playing in my hometown once again, it has been a while and to play a gig around the corner suits me fine. “I can get a lie in for once.” They will be playing the greatest hits including Johnny Yen, Come Home, Sometimes, Tomorrow, Sit Down and Laid.

Tickets cost £6 and doors are at 8pm.

The Four in a Row at The Cave this week is Crackerman tonight at 9pm.

Tomorrow in the early slot at 6pm is Audiorayz followed by Drty Luv at 6pm.

Don’t miss out on the Jim Keilt jam session on Sunday at 6pm.

You never know what you are going to get at these sessions but one thing is guaranteed, there will a lot of amazing talent on stage for you to listen to and maybe you can join in.

The Old Swan have The Lockhearts in tonight from 8pm and in ‘The Shoppers Slot’ at 4pm tomorrow ‘Supergroup’ Nightfly are back with a set full of great songs from bands such as The Allman Brothers, Fleetwood Mac, Supertramp, 10CC, Boston and many more.

Prepare for a treat, this group is amazing and they cover some of the most iconic songs ever written. Rock on

What’s more they got them down to a ‘ T’.

Nightfly are a seriously good band that play a massive varied set that is simply awesome live.

Anyone who has seen this act knows how brilliant they are.

The Swan is always packed when they play so get in early.

The Casual Swans are back on Monday with the talented singer Alex Bayliss starting at 3pm.

On Wednesday John Condron and friends will be playing from 6pm.

The Anchor has two bands this weekend.

Young guns Clyde are in action tonight from 9pm then on Sunday Second Hand News are playing at the later time of 5pm because of the Old Firm game.

The five-piece have a lot of experience of playing in bands between them.

Jen McLachlan is performing at 4pm on Monday. Check out the live music at Burger and Keg tonight and tomorrow night, both sets start at 9pm.

Vague Reality are at Callum’s Cavern tomorrow night from 8pm, with tickets available on the door.

Open Mic Nights this week are: Sunday at The Bungalow with Cat Caldwell, Monday 8pm at The Abbey Bar with Dunky Hunter, Andy Lindsey at The Anchor on Tuesday from 8pm, Wednesday with Johnny Barr at Burger and Keg from 8pm.

Also on Wednesday, Andy Lindsay is at The Patter Bar from 8pm before hosting at Cosmopolitan Thursday from 8pm.

There’s lots of great music on in the town this week. Get out and support local bands and venues.
