Let’s get the party started McGinn desperate to secure title

- Craig Ritchie

St Mirren skipper Stephen McGinn insists he and his teammates will fight from the first minute to the last as they bid to wrap up the title tomorrow.

McGinn admits winning the league on their own stomping ground would be the dream scenario following a roller coaster 18 months which has seen the Buddies turn from perennial basement battlers to a rejuvenated side on the verge of winning the league.

St Mirren welcome Livingston to the Paisley 2021 Stadium knowing all they need is a point to see them over the line.

And, having experienced the disappointment of failing to clinch the title against Dundee United on Tuesday, McGinn reckons the players are more than ready to party.

McGinn said: “It is going to be close because Livi aren’t the sort of team that you are going to go out and beat 5-0.

“We might score in the first minute of the game, we might score in the last, but the fans have been fantastic with us and we can’t wait to celebrate with them when the time comes around. We have played them four times already this season and we both have two wins apiece.

“We know that they are clear second in the league so we know it is going to be a tough game yet again. But we go into this game knowing what we need to do.

“We have beaten better teams at home this season and we are looking forward to being on our home pitch again after three tough games on the road.”

“If we draw and we are champions then no-one really cares but we want to keep our home record going.”

McGinn is touch and go to be passed fit for tomorrow’s game having limped off during the visit to Tayside on Tuesday.

But although he is itching to play at the weekend, the 29-yearold concedes he won’t put himself before the side.

He added: “I picked up an injury in training last Tuesday but I did everything I could to be ready for Brechin and managed to battle through it.

“But I aggravated it early on at Tannadice and it got worse the longer the game went on.

“There is never a good time to be injured as it is now the rewarding stage of the season.” LINES OPEN P
