Cammy’s so proud

Paisley Daily Express - - The Neil Deal -

Cammy Smith branded Saints’turn in fortunes as unbelievable having finally sealed their return to the top flight.

Smith was among a host of 10 signings made by Jack Ross last January as the Paisley side looked to avoid relegation to League One.

And the former Aberdeen man has been seen by many as the catalyst for St Mirren’s success this campaign with a number of man-of- the-match performances.

But he admitted the move to St Mirren came with some doubts having seen the predicament the side found itself in prior to originally arriving on loan from Pittodrie 16 months ago.

Smith said:“I remember the day Jack Ross phoned me, I was in the Aberdeen players’ lounge. I’m not going to lie, I looked at the table and saw that St Mirren were bottom.

“But the gaffer sold it to me by how well he came across – and I haven’t looked back. He’s put his faith in me and I have absolutely loved it.

“It’s brilliant – not a lot of players win a league so to do it at 22 with this group of players in front of a full house is brilliant.

“We just need to enjoy the moment because it has been fantastic.

“We got over the line and we knew a point would be enough.

“To come in when we were 10th in the league and on the brink of going down, to now winning a league with three games to go is unbelievable.”
