Charity hailed for helping deaf youngsters
A charity has been hailed for helping deaf young people into work.
Action on Hearing Loss supports jobseekers to find employment, training and education.
They provide help sessions using British Sign Language and give advice on CVs, interview techniques and making sure firms have interpreters.
MSP Maurice Golden welcomed the cause to parliament and says it provides a lifeline to those looking for roles.
He said: “During Action on Hearing Loss Scotland’s Deaf Awareness Week parliamentary reception, I was pleased to find out about the successes of the charity’s Moving On service.
“I urge employers across west Scotland to contact them to find out how they can make their recruitment processes accessible.
“They must ensure that talented young deaf or hard of hearing people have the chance to progress.”
The Big Lottery Fund helps pay for the charity’s vital services.
It a l s o p rov i d e s information to help employers to meet their legal responsibilities to be accessible for job-seekers.
Teri Devine, director of Action on Hearing Loss Scotland, has urged young people to get in touch.
He said: “We were delighted to speak with Maurice Golden about our specialist Moving On service.
“It supports young people across west Scotland who are deaf or have hearing loss to gain valuable work experiences which help them to achieve their career aspirations.”
