Police probe fight at ON-X

Police are investigat­ing after a school boy was injured during an organised fight outside a sports centre.

The 12- year- old lad suffered a broken arm when an older teenager got involved in the scrap at the ON-X Sports Centre in Linwood.

It is understood two boys, aged 12, had arranged to meet for a fight at around 7.30pm on Monday night.

A large crowd gathered at the site to watch the pair scuffle.

As the scrap unfolded, an older boy, believed to be aged around 16, intervened and attacked one of the younger lads.

The victim suffered a broken wrist and was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.

Police, who are treating the incident as a serious assault, have appealed for informatio­n to help trace the attacker.

Sergeant Alan Mack said: “We are investigat­ing a serious assault close to the ON-X Sports Centre in Linwood at around 7.30pm on Monday.

“A large group of young people had gathered to watch a fight between two boys aged 12. During the course of the disturbanc­e, and older male intervened and assaulted one of the two boys.

“Police are carrying out enquiries in relation to this incident and we would appeal to anyone who may have any informatio­n to get in to touch.”
