Banned driver ends up back in the dock
Attempt to get promotion at work was his downfall
A banned motorist has been rapped for driving to work because he wanted a promotion.
Derek McDonald, 41, was stopped by cops during random checks.
But he was allowed to go after officers were not given the right information during a background report.
McDonald was later traced and admitted driving while disqualified when he was ordered to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court.
Prosecutor Tom Bowman told how his record was not flagged up when they quizzed him.
He said: “Police were carrying out random checks.
“This is what brought the accused to their attention.
“They did not having information about his disqualification. “He was allowed to go on his way. “The information given to police was incorrect.”
McDonald had already been banned from driving when he was stopped on Renfrew’s Paisley Road.
He had ordered to sit the extended test before he got his licence back.
McDonald got behind the wheel because he wanted to impress his boss around 8.30pm last September 8.
Defence lawyer Kevin Brady admitted his client should have made other arrangements to get in.
He said: “It wasn’t any information he gave to police that was wrong.
“He gave the right name and address.
“Checks were not made closely enough.
“He had a last minute let-down getting to work. “He was in for a promotion. “He should have called a taxi or said he couldn’t make it in.
“Due to the volatile job market, he took the decision to drive. “He works six days a week.” Sheriff Susan Sinclair told to complete 150 hours of unpaid work in six months.
She said: “There’s nothing that can be said that hasn’t been told to you before.
“The difficulty for you is that you have done this already.
“When people continue to drive in deference to a court order, they do tend to get caught.
“Complete the unpaid work and we won’t hear anything more about it.
“I think that is reasonable because this is the second time you have been caught driving while disqualified.”
McDonald, of Newmains Road, Renfrew, has been banned McDonald for a further two years.
