Bowlers await the greens light as campaigns get under way

- Bowls

Paisley and District Bowls’ outdoor season gets under way this afternoon as greens across the county prepare for action.

The First and Second Divisions are striving to get their campaigns off to the perfect start.

Barrhead take on Renfrew in the First Division, while Blacklandmill are at home to Wellmeadow. Elderslie have also been handed a home fixture as they welcome Linwood BC, and Kilbarchan take on Meikleriggs, while Anchor face Caledonia.

In the Second Division, Charleston travel to Abercorn for their opening game of the league season.

Ferguslie are at home to Hawkhead, while Neilston welcome Ralston. Priorscroft round off the fixtures when they play hosts to Victoria BC.

Meanwhile, it remains tight at the top of the Paisley Veterans Bowls Outdoor League, with Charleston still ruling the roost. Charleston remain at the league summit following their well-earned 6-2 win over Meikleriggs, while second placed Caledonia edged out Ralston 5-3 away from home.

Priorscroft enjoyed a good week, beating Renfrew 6-2, but that result still wasn’t enough to get the Paisley side among the league leaders.

And, although Inchinnan were held to a 4-4 draw by Abercorn, they remain in fourth spot.

There proved to be a host of draws, with a number of sides having to settle for a share of the spoils.

Elderslie and Blacklandmill fought out a 4-4 draw, while Ferguslie and Anchor also couldn’t find a way beyond one another. Wellmeadow and Hawkhead, and Victoria and Kilbarchan were the other sides all sharing the points.

Next week, Charleston will be aiming to maintain pole position as they take on Anchor, while Ralston and Kilbarchan face off in what should prove to be an intriguing encounter.

Week 16 results: Charleston 6 Meikleriggs 2, Ralston 3 Caledonia 5, Priorscroft 6 Renfrew 2, Elderslie 4 Blacklandmill 4, Ferguslie 4 Anchor 4, Wellmeadow 4 Hawkhead 4, Abercorn 4 Inchinnan 4, Victoria 4 Kilbarchan 4.

Next week’s fixtures: Blacklandmill v Wellmeadow, Priorscroft v Ferguslie, Inchinnan v Caledonia, Kilbarchan v Ralston, Meikleriggs v Abercorn, Hawkhead v Victoria, Anchor v Charleston, Renfrew v Elderslie.
