Outburst after officers arrested her

- Chris Taylor

A woman swung for police and spat at them after bawling: “F****n b******s.”

Evelyn Armstrong, 46, hurled sectarian abuse at cops after they lifted her for trashing her family home.

She terrified her mum and sister after coming home drunk and hurled stools and smashed glasses.

Armstrong admitted assaulting officers and terrorising the women at Paisley Sheriff Court.

Prosecutor Tom Bowman told how her victims called police when she began acting out, but told them to “f**k off”.

He said: “She was in the kitchen sitting on a stool.

“Officers noticed signs of a disturbance and observed smashed glass on the floor and items around the room. “She shouted: ‘F***** b******s’. “She was placed under arrest. “She swung her arms and a clenched fist, narrowly missing an officer’s face.

“She was taken outside and placed in the rear of the police car.

“But she then turned to face police and spat on another officer.”

The court heard Armstrong had been out drinking when she returned home and began acting up.

She appeared in the dock with her arm in a sling when she pled guilty to the boozy rammy.

The lout had a spit hood put over her head when she gobbed at officers in Johnstone’s Ramsay Avenue on April 7.

Defence lawyer Terry Gallanagh admitted his client had a problem with alcohol.

He said: “There’s nobody more disgusted by this behaviour than Evelyn Armstrong.

“There’s remorse shown and she has accepted what she did entirely. “She’s sought help relating to drink. “She is wholly embarrassed and has little recollection of it.”

Sentence was deferred on Armstrong for six months.

Sheriff Susan Sinclair warned she faces a harsh punishment if she does not behave.

She said: “I’m going to give you six months to see if you can get the help you are seeking. “And to keep out of trouble. “If you aren’t, you had better start worrying.”

Armstrong has been ordered to return for sentencing in November.
